A business model describes the rationale of how an organisation creates, delivers, and captures the value.
The development of the Business Model Canvas will facilitate discussion on the shared understanding of the nine key areas of the business model: customer segments; value propositions; distribution and sales channels; customer relationships; revenue streams; key resources; key activities; key partnerships; and cost structure, and how they interact with each other. These nine key areas cover the four main areas of the business: financial viability; customers; systems and processes; and people resources within the organisation. These four key areas can be further developed through the balanced scorecard approach (see below).
